Blog about Technology 1.2

Looks like I just discovered the problem the software bundle they set up for our Mac G5's. There is a second disc included with the bundle. If someone did not install what is in that disc, one would have problems opening the swatch libraries under Adobe's Illustrator app. Thank goodness I had some extra time tonight to figure this stuff up. Now, I will have to spread my wealthy knowledge to everyone in the team. What an exciting discovery, and this wasnt even told about in the manual either... It's rewrite time techies!

Blog about technology

I have discovered a glitch with windows xp and internet explorer. If you change date and time properties of your computer running windows xp and you view a blog site, and the date you chose has past, the default view will be posts from that date. Weird huh? I discovered it by accident when Dot mistakenly changed the date on our home computer. I was wondering why every blog I was reading were showing old posts.

Commenting and Trackback

Haloscan commenting and trackback have been added to this blog.

I used to have a weblog in Userland. It was great for organizing your thoughts. But I was kind of weary about having my computer out there open for hackers to break into. Chingay got me into blogging in Blogger which is much easier to handle and they have provided more and more services since they were taken over by Google! Now it seems that Haloscan has bonded with Blogger to provide users with "trackback" Now readers can link what blog and if they are nice enough to link what they write about me, they can do so by sending me a trackback. Try it. Its simple and its fun!

Engagement Party

Had the engagement party on Sunday. It was great to see friends and family whom I haven't kept in touch with. I most especially enjoyed the company of my friend Romeo and Adrian. We havent really partied in a while. Last time we met up was at Aidan's first birthday but we didnt really reminisse like we did Sunday. We were remembering our activities five years back when we would stay up all night Friday or Saturday night or both! We would have road trips to Atlantic City, Tasha's house and Staten Island. Man, those were the days. Who could forget about Manila nights?! I will have to put some time for another post about those stories. The party finished without problems about public drunkeness. Contrary to popular belief not every party Noodle goes to ends up with somebody in an I.V. unit on their arm...

All day, staring at the ceiling naked, dancing with shadows on the wall.

Its Friday! No Pants Friday! I shall be carrying on the tradition that Chris Pirillo had started over a year back. So on with the chronicles but only without pants on Fridays!

Training, training, training

My manager has appointed me the training guru for the whole team. A lot of things are coming down the pike as far as training is concerned an for some reason or other he has designated me as someone that can teach everyone what to do. I am glad that I was also given assistance in this overburdening task. I have two tenured coworkers to help me train. We have split up the team into three groups in that way everyone gets a piece of the pie. I cant say much as to the details of this training being that I might disclose some corporate secrets and strategies. But to put it simply, I will need all the help that I can to complete this task. And we have less than two months to get this done! No pressure...

UPDATE! I really hate to post my thoughts about work here being that this is more about my personal life than anything, but the jist of it is that this task was given to me without much direction and support. I have been given a deadline and I have very little literature to give to the people I need to train. Let alone some sort of list to work from to find out who is trained in what. Well, like I said before, no pressure. I will have to try to control what I can control. I was given this hole and I have to dig myself out of it.

Home Improvements

This topic will chronicle the changes that Dot and I will be making on the house that we live in. Last year, Dot bought a fixer upper town house. Over the course of the year we have made some minor improvements. Mainly, some redecorating and replacing the carpet on the second floor.
This year however, she has set her mind on making some major upgrades one of which was replacing the tiles in both the kitchen and dining room. That upgrade came out unscathed. It was done by some contractors that Dot's aunt knows very well.
The next upgrade we wanted to do was to remove the paint from the outside brickface. The previous owner had decided upon paining the brinkface instead of hiring someone to powerwash the brickface and pointing around the bricks. I must say that was a cheap renovation but the end result was devastating to say the least. When Dot bought the property, the paint was peeling off the bricks. Not that the paint was made of lead. On the contrary it was peeling because the brick could not "breathe".
Just a little note to all you home owners out there. If you really want to improve on your brickfaced home, dont paint over the bricks. Before even considering that get a quote on either pointing the brickface or cover it entirely with aluminum siding. Never paint over brick! The contractors we hired, underwent the daunting task of putting strong paint remover over the painted bricks to remove the paint not once but 3 times!
Today, they completed the task of paint removal and I must say, they did a swell job! Not only was the paint off the bricks but it looks spanking brand new. The brickface was calling out that it could breathe again as it did about a decade ago. Now, the pointing begins. The contractors will be back in two weeks. That leaves me not enough time to prepare for the poining. I will have to remove the semi dead plants around the bricked areas. And to call the phone company to rewire the phone lines away from the bricks to be pointed. Aurghh!

Pre-Wedding Activities

Everyone I am in contact with know that I am getting married and I have been given advice from the people I work with to my family and friends. The last two days has been hectic to say the least. Looking at all of these catering halls is really a "biatch". I apologize with the choice of words. I have gone to a few places in Astoria and also one in Queens Village. Antun's of Queens Village seem to hit our budget real well. Initially we were given a price of $74.95 per person. Then the owner, John, went inside the meeting room and offered us a deal. $70.00 per person and $400.00 payment for the maitre'd. Oh yeah, he told us that there will be no gratuity payment! What a deal! (TBC)

New Record!

I have set a new record for myself in terms of overtime. I have surpassed over 120 hours in the last 2 weeks! I am so glad that the Tree is coming back from his vacation. Of course burning the candle at both ends does carry a reward. My manager has asked me to take Monday off. As a matter of fact now that the Tree is coming back Tuesday, my boss has given me Tuesday and Wednesday off too! WoohooOOoo!

What shall I do with the next few days off?

Midnight oil burning

I have devoted a lot of time this week to work and for the past 3 days I have averaged over 12 hour days. One of the reasons is that someone at work is out on vacation and I have to cover his projects. Another reason is that we are so understaffed thats its not even funny anymore. Although I love to the rich rewards of overtime pay, its has overburndened me to the point that I have trouble sleeping when I get home. Sometimes I wonder how Dimitri does it? Working a swing shift and be able to get a decent 6 hours of sleep at night.

I cannot wait until he comes back from vacation! Then I can continue my managerial duties and maybe even put myself in charge the whole team. Sigh, Project Management has so many possibilities...

First Post

Being a ghost writer for a few blogs out there I have decided to create a blog of my own. Although I will continue to write in other blogs this gives me some freedom to write what I all I want and more. Lets say for instance, I want to write about politics. Some people out there would not want me to discuss partisan thoughts in their own blog. Here I can do that.

Lets also put down some guidelines as well. After all, it would not work too well if I didn't set myself up to some kind of standards. First and foremost, none of that pornography will be tolerated even if it is semi-decent. Any coments of that sort will be filtered and removed. Another thing that I would like to place is an understanding that what I write down is my thoughts and that it should not be taken as a personal hit on anyone's list. Take my writing for what its worth but dont take is as the thoughts of everyone that you know. After all this is my weblog and my weblog alone. No ghost writers and no guest writers.

Comments are welcome at any time but please be mindful of your comments. This is not your personal forum, its mine. Keep it brief or I shall be forthcoming to edit its content.

With all of that in mind on with the noodle writing.
